Kampala, 19th July 2023

On 19th July 2023, we marked a momentous milestone in our journey as we celebrated the fifth anniversary of the Uganda Key Populations Consortium (UKPC). It seems like just yesterday when we were formed at Mulago Referral Hospital on the 19th of July 2018, with a shared vision of promoting the rights and well-being of key populations in Uganda. Today, as we reflect on our achievements, we are humbled and proud of the tremendous strides we have made together.

Over the past five years, UKPC has grown from strength to strength, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of key populations and the communities we serve. Our journey has been one of dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to our mission. This journey has been supported by a number of partners and community members who have been a big support system for Uganda Key Populations in implementing activities and pushing the agenda and mission of the consortium. We have faced challenges, but we have also celebrated successes, big and small, all of which have shaped our path and reinforced our determination.

Since our inception, we have championed the rights of marginalized and vulnerable groups, providing a safe space for their voices to be heard and amplified. Through advocacy, capacity building, and community engagement, we have empowered individuals to take charge of their health, their rights, and their future through national level advocacy and high level engagements with different stakeholders and linking funders and community members because our biggest role is being a link to the high  level offices.

The heart of UKPC lies in the strength of our partnerships and collaborations. Together with our members, board of directors, partners, and supporters, we have created a united front against stigma, discrimination, and barriers to essential services. Our collective efforts have not only improved access to healthcare but also fostered a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Our achievements are a testament to the passion and dedication of our team and the unwavering support from individuals and organizations who share our vision. From conducting awareness campaigns and sensitization workshops to providing essential services and support, every milestone we have achieved has been possible because of the unity and shared purpose within our consortium.

As we look towards the future, we are filled with hope and optimism. We recognize that our journey is far from over, and there are still challenges to overcome. However, armed with the experiences and lessons of the past five years, we are confident that we can continue to make a difference in the lives of key populations.

The fifth anniversary of UKPC is not only a celebration of our achievements but also a recommitment to the cause we hold dear. As we embark on the next phase of our journey, we pledge to remain steadfast in our pursuit of a more equitable and inclusive society, where the rights and dignity of every individual are respected and upheld.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have been a part of our journey thus far – our members, board of directors, partners, donors, volunteers, and the key populations themselves. Your unwavering support has been the driving force behind our success.

Together, let us look forward to creating a brighter, more promising future for key populations in Uganda and beyond. Happy 5th Anniversary, Uganda Key Populations Consortium!
